Reviews: The Emerald Threads (1)
“An Overall Wonderful Series”
(Paperback)
by Robin
4.25/5 stars I have really enjoyed this series. I do plan to continue on with its companion series (which focuses and follows up on other characters from this original series). As with all series that I love it was bittersweet to see these characters come to the end of the starring arc. The characters in this series are just the right amount of balance (for me) in their portrayals. Grace is a strong heroine, Roland a dedicated hero. What makes them extra enjoyable to watch is their willingness/ability to show those traits alongside more genteel and vulnerable qualities. As an example, Roland's half-brother Nathaniel (who has his own past heartbreaks) is recognized and treated as both a brother and best friend by Roland. They are unapologetic in their showing/receiving of affection and I find that very refreshing in two strong male characters. I feel that so often in books, the mains are either one way or another and not as carefully nuanced as I like to see in my characters. As for Grace and Roland, these two are just the right balance both as individuals and as a couple. The writing style is easy to follow and well-done, the plots are entertaining and well-planned, and the overall experience is just a pleasure to read. This one wrapped up nicely, however, I will say that I was hoping for more of a closure/peek-into-the-future for Nathaniel's character. If you haven't read this series, I recommend it beginning with The Missing Diamond.
