Reviews: The Doomsday Machine (1)
“THe author does make some revalations here and there”
(Hardback)
by Martin Macrae
Atomic bombs were parked on a boat tied up in Japan in the 1950's . The author makes this revaluation, along with a few others. An essential read though if you are studying this subject. With perhaps one reservation: the Author does not take into account the targeting the Russians were doing, and how a deterrence works. Of course, releasing even a small number of hydrogen bombs would put mankind back centuries, nuclear fallout and so on. But only the threat of destruction works when up against dictators. The book also cover possible US use of nuclear weapons in Korea and Vietnam, and the US reluctance, to do so, -that went well for the South Vietnamese. Knowing now, from the book, that nuclear weapons can be released by lower-level military , in the past, and probably still now , is quite a concern.
