Reviews: The Dive (16)
“Brilliantly atmospheric and completely captivating!”
(Hardback)
I love a book that takes me somewhere else in the world. This one took me to Thailand and with its white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, I soon felt myself dreaming of being there. That was until the body count started piling up!
“The Dive”
(Hardback)
The dive is a story from two different voices, we have Cass a “permanent” who is a diving instructor on a fictitious Thai island known as Koh Sang, she is engaged to Logan the owner of a bar, together they have the perfect life, or so they want you to think. She gets the feeling she is being watched and notes start appearing but that is just the beginning, next she finds a body and her life begins to unravel once again.
Our next voice is Brooke, she arrived as a ditzy Instagram influencer with hidden dreams of joining the world of journalism. Once the body count increases she thinks she has found her story to rocket her in to being a big time journalist, then danger comes a little too close to home!
I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this story, there were enough of them to offer up different dynamics to the group but not too many that you were left thinking “who was that again” The tension was captured throughout and the ending wasn’t rushed, I thought the twists along the way were great and so unexpected right up to the end.
The only downside to this book would be, despite the dead bodies, the idilic setting that was described has made me desperate to visit Thailand, I could almost feel myself stood in the resort looking out over the water come rain or shine. It reminded me very much of my trip to Jamaica a few years ago.
“A fabulous summer read”
(Hardback)
I was lucky enough to be sent a proof copy of this fantastic book & wish I’d put it higher on my tbr pile. I’ve always fancied learning to dive, not so much now.
Set on an idyllic island in Thailand, a group of first time divers experience more than they were expecting. Told from two POVs - the dive instructor & an influencer, we also meet a diverse oddball group including a surfer & a yoga teacher; they were all great characters.
Well written with a good pace, this book does make you think about who you befriend on holiday especially when it’s an isolated island. Secrets aplenty, some worth killing for.
A brilliant holiday read, just not if you’re diving or in Thailand.
“Brilliant Debut Book”
(Hardback)
Loved this story featuring the coast of Koh Sang, Thailand 'which sounds like paradise and I could feel like I was there.
This had me hooked from the first page the characters who all had their own secrets to hide and especially Cass who was a scuba diving instructor who looked forward to building a life running scuba dives but when one of her group ends up dead she finds herself trying to find the killer.
I could not put this down so many twists and turns and found myself trying to guess who was the killer especially when more people are killed I felt conflicted and did not know who to believe so I had to finish the book in one sitting.
Highly recommended for a brilliant summer book..
Thanks to NetGalley & Random House UK, Transworld Publishers, Bantam for a ARC for a honest review.
“So many twists you will go dizzy”
(Hardback)
This book is told from the viewpoint of two female characters, which was a good way to tell this story.
Cass is a dive instructor on an island in Thailand, she works with a group of friends who have all made their home there. They all have reasons for being there, but are they all as they seem.
Brooke is an influencer who is staying on the island, who is drawn towards this group and she makes friends with them. Again is she what she seems?
Then one day whilst on a group dive with some tourists they come across a body in the water, that of another tourist who should have been with them on that dive. Bring into a mix the death of another tourist a few weeks before that and are both accidents or is there a link or a serial killer on the island? Who will survive?
This story had so many twists and turns it made me dizzy!
