Very much a page turner will keep you glued till the very end. What starts as a death by natural causes leads DI Corstorphine and his small team a disturbing dance when suicide and drugs become connected. All the characters have something to hide and old secrets will come to light before this complex case can be solved. Part of a series you will wish to revisit. This is the second instalment in the series and another great read. I read this soon after finishing The Bone Clock, and while not necessary, as this works perfectly as a stand-alone read, it was great to be able to catch up with the characters and their subplots, not to mention the lovely comment about the main character’s mantelpiece clock keeping better time than it ever had before. The book opens as a climber experiences a fatal heart attack as he nears the summit of a mountain. An open and shut case, or is it? When his sister is brutally attacked it soon becomes clear that someone is out for revenge against this very odd, somewhat dysfunctional, family. A thoroughly enjoyable read that brings suspense, intrigue and a bit of humour too. You know you'll want to read more from a series when you create a collection for it on your Kindle.

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed 'The Bone Clock', the first book to feature DI Corstophine and DC Frankie McKenzie, I looked forward to their second outing and I was not disappointed. This one has it all- murder, suicide, the occult, peeping tom, drugs- and all set against a beautiful Scottish backdrop. Full of suspense, a well crafted story and well rounded characters 'The Devil's Cut' is a must for anyone who enjoys a first class, five star crime thriller. The death of a distillery owner, whilst he was out solo hill climbing is, at first, put down to a heart attack. The arrival at the police station of the man's sister, who claims her brother was murdered and she knows this because a medium told her at a séance is not immediately believed! However DI Corstorphine, who has knows the victim's son, decides to look at the case more closely. The victim has already been cremated and had requested his ashes be scattered from the top of a number of Munros (hills over 3,000ft) Corstorphine as a hill climber himself joins the group and on the way down he finds the victim's water bottle- and that changes everything. I really enjoyed the first book in the series & I thought this one was even better. It is good to get to know the police team better and the descriptions of the hills were terrific (sadly I'm only a Munro bagger from the bottom!) Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book- I'm already looking forward to the next one!

The second DI Corstorphine book. A suicide, a tragic death whilst climbing, theft, drugs and a peeping tom, the small team have their work cut out. As the crimes increase DI Corstorphine’s team is stretched thin. This was another excellent read and although in a series is equally a standalone read.
