To Hannah the new prison regime is odd....very odd. It all started when her husband was murdered. His name was John and he was a detective in the police force. She is angry that some one they didn't know took his life and that she can never speak to, hold in her arms or talk to John again because of this one man's actions. She is also angry about how prisoners are treated. She knows the killer named Jem deserves to be punished but not in this way and not by her. The prisons in the country were being filled beyond control and new rulings were brought in that these prisoners should serve there terms of lockdown in the homes of their victims. The are locked in special "cells" which are in effect cages with a hatch through which food etc is passed between the inmate and the victimsm family. But it is left to Hannah to decide ...should the prisoner be treated with hate and contempt for what he has done or does time make her relent and show pity on the man who now lives in her home

This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading. Firstly, I loved this book. Its a hardback consisting of 400 pages but I managed it in a few days as it was an easy read. The story follows Hannah, the recent widow of a murdered police officer. In the book the prison system has changed under a new govenment and the victim of a crime now hosts the prisoner. The story starts with the convicted murderer of Hannahs husband, Jem, being moved into his cell in Hannahs kitchen. We start to follow the story of Hannah adjusting to life with her prisoner, who states his innocence by planting doubt toward the integrity of Hannahs husband. The story becomes a crime & Thriller novel, as Hannah starts to investigate how her husband died. She uncovers secrets changing her life as she knew it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would rate it 5 out of 5. I feel this would appeal to men and women, of a variety of ages. The story felt original and it didn't waste the readers time. I enjoyed going on a journey with Hannah, and learning more about Jem. I recommend buying this book!

I love the cover, it’s dark and reflective of the content but still eye catching and would definitely lead you to pick it up for a closer look and to read the blurb. I particularly enjoy a good thriller and it is definitely one of my favourite genres to read so I had very high expectations when reading this novel. It definitely was not disappointed by this book, it’s addictive, thrilling, captivating and an incredible read. I found myself incredibly invested in the book and unable to walk away from it at times. It’s an on-the-edge-of-your-seat read for sure. It’s a very fresh and novel concept for a book and intensely thrilling. I will definitely be recommending this book and even buying for likeminded reading friends.

With its unique and interesting plot, this is a book that I really enjoyed. I haven't read anything by this author before but the blurb reeled me in. I can't even imagine the horror of having to look after a person who has been convicted of a crime against you. You have to look after that person in your own home - would I be able to do that? This book certainly makes you think about it but this is the reality for the main character in this book, Hannah. Her husband was murdered and Jem has been found guilty; he is now housed in a cell in her kitchen and Hannah is having to face this man every day whilst trying to come to terms with her loss and grief. Hannah is desperate to keep the memories of her husband alive but as she discovers more, he doesn't appear to be the man she knew and loved and when Jem professes his innocence - well he would wouldn't he - more doubts creep in and Hannah finds herself in a very difficult position. Written from the perspectives of Hannah and Jem, this is a story that just keeps giving. There are some great twists and you never really know what's going to happen until the end. This is an author I will definitely look out for in the future and my thanks go to Bonnier Books UK and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.
