Loved every single page. Will she? Won’t she? How could she? How could he? Modern, touching, thought provoking and highly amusing. Didn’t want to put it down.

Whenever I see that a new novel by Marian Keyes is coming out I know that this is exactly what I want to read in a book! I love how involved you feel with the characters and this one certainly didn't disappoint I felt apart of the family all the way through! Amys life is hanging by a thread she is desperate to find out what is wrong with her husband Hugh, she loves him to pieces but ever since his father has died, he hasn't been the same, counselling hasn't helped and neither has tablets. It then dawns on Hugh exactly what he needs...A Break...not just a weekend break away, or a few days to himself but a break from his wife, marriage and family for 6 months. Amy can't process this, especially after her first husband walked out on her, Hugh was meant to be for keeps, he promises their relationship isn't over and he will be back in 6 months time definitely. This book made me laugh out loud, it also broke my heart into a million pieces and made me cry. A fantastic read with emotional subjects and extremely compelling.

Overall I enjoyed this book although having not read Marian Keyes for many years now, I forgot how sometimes her Irish jokey slang terms can be a bit annoying at times! However pushing that aside, and the over-described family characters, this was an interesting story that described the emotions that a working mother goes through when her husband ups and leaves to take a six month break from their marriage. You feel for the character and there are some interesting twists and turns that make the story amusing. Mid-way I started to enjoy it more. It could have been a tad shorter but then the build up probably needed to be there to make the story better. I enjoy a Marian Keyes novel once in a while but only that...her style of writing is not for me on a regular basis

I love that Marian Keyes never shies away from any topic. So far she has tackled drug addiction, domestic abuse and abortion to name just a few. She addresses every subject with tact and grace whilst never been afraid to show raw emotion in her writing. I find as I get older I appreciate the emotional turmoil the characters face more and more relatable.

THE BREAK was a strangely refreshing read considering that it was, at times, difficult to read in terms of storyline. What Marian Keyes managed to accomplish was narrating the heartbreak of a seemingly solid marriage breaking up, with wit alongside real, tough emotional pain. There are a number of key characters in this book, but Hugh and Amy are at the fore, it's their marriage on a break after all. I went through many changes in how I felt about both these characters. There were times I could not stand Hugh but also moments where he had my compassion. Amy was frustrating in the main but I could see myself being equally stupid in the decision making line, if I was in the same situation. As with all Marian Keyes books, families are prominent in the story and I loved the teenage girls in this book and their narrative. THE BREAK made me emote hugely. There was barely a time where I wasn't feeling some strong emotion as I read; the writing was that powerful. This isn't the most comfortable of reads but I love being put into a real situation even if it does discomfort me. I thoroughly enjoyed returning to Marian Keyes and I've remembered what I love so much about her books.
