Reviews: The Binding (194)
“Absolutely fabulous”
(Hardback)
by Sally Boocock
The best book I have read this year. Not only does it have the most beautiful cover it has the most wonderful story inside. It is a story of love, lust and desire in a world where books are banned and you can have your memories removed and bound in a book and kept under lock and key. A tremendous fantasy novel I will be rereading and recommending to everyone.
“I was completely enraptured”
(Hardback)
by Sophie Bradburn
Sadly in recent years I haven’t bought many hardback books, but as soon as I laid my eyes on The Binding I knew I had to have it. It captured my imagination right from the start, weaving such vivid scenes full of intrigue. I loved how the characters were re-introduced time and time again as you learnt more and more. I felt the rush of excitement as relationships blossomed, as well as challenged by the moral issues that ‘binding’ raised. It’s such a unique concept and the book is written so beautifully. I recommend this to anyone and everyone.
“A Stunning Novel”
(Paperback)
by Ellen Marshall
The Binding was one of those books that I couldn't put down. Imagine a world where parts of your memory could be bound into a book, allowing you to live an untroubled life. Emmett has grown up in a world where books are forbidden and then is taken on as an apprentice Binder. He discovers that some people don't use the power of Binding as ethically as others. He also discovers that he has had a secret that has been Bound. I loved the world that Bridget Collins created and the relationships between her characters. This is a very special book that I will be thinking about for a long time!
“If this book was a person, i'd swoon when it entered the room.”
(Hardback)
by Catriona at Waterstones Head Office
Oh how I adored this book. More than anything else, for me this is a book about the power of memories and the simple joy we get from them and often take for granted. The love story was beautiful and the mechanic of the Binding was unique and powerful, yet to me it was the realising all the moments I keep within me that are so utterly priceless, and the gladness I feel for them now, that made this book truly spectacular. I love when fiction can affect how you feel in the real world and this did exactly that.
“Simply Superb”
(Paperback)
by C J Duncanson
Went in with little expectation. Thought it was going to be a supernatural type affair; to a point it is. It grows to be so much more. Written well, you can feel the tension growing, the characters are deep and fascinating. When it ended, I wanted so much more.
