Reviews: The Backpacker (1)
“A hidden gem, that turned out to be a treasure!”
(Paperback)
This is for the people who have been travelling or are thinking about taking time out to travel. This little gem i discovered amongst the travel section in Waterstones and what a little discovery it turned out to be.
From the opening pages this book had me absolutley hooked. The story of a guys adventure across some of the great countries this amazing planet has to offer, generally with no plan and a free spirited attitude of "lets see where things take us" takes me straight back to my own personal Round-the-world trip. Though my trip being alittle less ballsy at times(didnt involve stealing a yaught) but still reminded me of the most free you can feel away from the mundane 9-5 that grinds us down at times.
John Harris's story "The Backpacker" is his true account of his personal trip that took many many unexpected twists and turns that changed his life forever. As you travel trough this journey through the many highs and lows of johns travels, i couldnt help but journey straight to those exotic locations myself...in my head. Having travelled and lived for a while in many of the mentioned countries myself, i could fully relate and appreciate Johns observations and opinions.
The story is both funny and at times tragic, but always unpredictable ...as life should be. John captuers perfectly the beauty that is out there for our eyes to see and experience outside our own little worlds.
Travelling the world was the best thing i have ever done and would recomend it to everyone and would quite happily spend hours telling you why. If you dont believe me, buy this amazing book.
