Reviews: Target Tirpitz (1)
“Fully descriptive title GREAT, drew my interest”
(Hardback)
by Mike Burns
As in his previous book of the Boys of the RAF Bishop puts the reader in a front row seat on all the attempts of Great Britain's (nee' Churchill's obsession) with the sinking of this German threat to Britain's war effort on the North Atlantic Convoy routes. Reading almost like a novel you get the feeling that the men of the various underwater, land, and airborne, assaults on Tirpitz, were brave beyond description. Well written, extremely well documented, the reader walks away with a sense of historical knowledge of this event down to the last detail. The only puzzling part was Churchill's burning desire to sink Tirpitz, men lost their lives at a point where realistically the threat the Tirpitz in 1943 and after was minimal at best, were these mens deaths necessary? A wonderful read for historical veterans or those who want to learn about the triumphs and tragedy that war brings, and its human cost.
