“This sharp little gem has edges that cut right into the centre of the love and bond between sisters.”
(Hardback)

Big thank you to the publishers for sending me a copy. BRILLIANTLY captures the honest truth of the closeness and friendship of sisters. The snippets of dialogue are so perfect you are nodding along muttering “yep...yep...YES”. Because we have all had these conversations or scenarios! It made me laugh whilst shaking my head and cry whilst nodding my head on almost every page. I was a little afraid of reading this, but Jessie slams into the rawest of raw moments head on and you still sit nodding, thinking “Absolutely yes, THIS is how it would feel.” And you thank her for it, for that honesty. I raced through it, except to stop every so often to text my sister saying “Remember when we used to....”. I just wanted to devour more and more of the main character’s outlook on everything, not just sisterhood, but life, friends, jobs, parents. And I think it translates exactly the same as with a best friend, or life long friend you have that sister-like bond with. I’m very, very glad I read this and will definitely read again, even if it’s just to chuckle and recognise some of myself in the main character.
“Heartwrenchingly lovely”

This is a really beautiful book. I preordered it as I’m a fan of the author and it’s safe to say it was worth the wait. It’s written in a similar style to Sally Rooney’s works and fully explores the various stages of grief and sibling relationships. This book makes me appreciate my loved ones, as I found myself getting sad every time I read the book and immediately clingy with my boyfriend. I can’t describe how much I enjoyed this book and how I couldn’t put it down. It’s devastatingly beautiful and completely worth the second hand sadness you get from the protagonist.
“Brutally real and emotionally resonant - but still with great humour”

I went in to Sunset unprepared - I've loved some of Jessie Cave's other work, but wasn't really aware of any of the themes that would be present here. I really enjoyed Cave's prose writing style - it's conversational, really flows and keeps tugging you along (I couldn't put this book down). Though it has quite an informal, casual tone, this book is brutally real and emotionally resonant. There are moments in this book which have stuck with me since reading, and I keep coming back to them - especially the novel's final image, which I found really powerful. There are still moments of humour glinting through - this is not a depressing read by any means, rather a reflective and insightful one. I found Sunset to be a cathartic and ultimately uplifting read. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
“Scary. Scary and perfect.”

Death scares me. I think it scares all of us. But dealing with death is even scarier, if you ask me. This book is scary. Scary and perfect because it doesn't make you shy away. It tells the truth, the sad and inevitable truth about living life with loss and grief. I love how unapologetically Jessie Cave deals with this topic. I think she doesn't even realize how brilliant she is in telling the truth in a narrative way that leaves the reader in awe. Thank you for this life altering book. I marked my favorite lines and I can say I have almost the entire thing highlighted. That's how unforgettable it is. Read Sunset. Just do it.
