Reviews: Summer's Crown (2)
“Perfect present for followers of County Cricket!”
(Hardback)
by Philip Green
Beautifully produced history of the County Championship which will appeal to anyone interested in the longer form of the game. Organised by decades and rich in statistics, but by no means a purely statistical record. There are some great anecdotes and player profiles, and the whole book is interspersed with photographs, many in colour. It's a cracking read as well as a superb chronicle of the long history of county cricket. Thoroughly enjoyable and would make a lovely Christmas present to help any cricket enthusiast through the winter until the next County Championship starts.
“Summer's Crown: The Story of Cricket's County Championship ”

An excellent and informative history of the first 125 years of the County Championship. The book is well illustrated throughout. Each county is given a brief history and the championship is covered by separate chapters for each decade. The chapters cover the changes to the laws during each decade, the leading players and counties, and the cricketing events of the decade. Although the appendix gives lots of interesting facts and figures, this book is not full of statistics which make if an easy and enjoyable read for anyone interested in county cricket.
