“funny and sweet”
(Paperback)
by Clarabella_della_rosa
This was a fun rom com read and my first from this author. Her writing style is easy to submerge into and lose yourself in the world she's created. It was detailed on the startup side but not overwhelmingly so, I learnt something whilst being entertained so a bonus for me! I loved the mix of the infernal plane and demons and vampires plus various other entities all mixed up in this book. I loved that Morgan felt like a fish out of water, with her demon Huntress mother and magical historian father yet she inherited no abilities and had to settle for being mundane. Her “wants” when discussed with Luke were charming and made me ponder, it gave her character a real warmth and human appeal. Luke was an absolute sweetie and the tension between them was great, it was a good slow burn. Pacing was a tiny bit slow but nothing that stopped me from reading, as I did need to know how it all ended. The supporting characters were memorable and fit seamlessly into the story, her mum being a great one as well as Brad and his ever increasing pivots! Overall I had fun reading this and I'd recommend it for a good summer beach read.

“Super fun!”
(Paperback)
by Rebecca Mace
Thanks to Netgalley and Titan books for an early copy in exchange for an honest review. This is a lovely book genre, something that sits between fantasy and cosy fantasy, I think the author mentioned it was contemporary fantasy and that sounds perfect. It’s got the gritty bits of real life and some gore while layering on a very realistic fantasy world. Usually the fantasy worlds I read help me escape from real life, but this one did the exact opposite! I was reading about webinars and slide decks and “pivoting” and having major flashbacks to my own job and the worst bits of it! (This is probably the only reason it’s not quite a five star for me, personally I get a bit stressed and avoid reading something if it reminds me too much of my real life) I loved the characters though, even the ones we were absolutely meant to hate (a love to hate them relationship!) and Morgan is such a cool main character to read about. Her take on life and what she wants out of it felt very unique for a book character but very normal for a human. Some people don’t need to monetise their hobby, they just need it in their life to add a bit of joy, like Morgan and her baking. And some people never find a career they’re passionate about, but they build up their private life with passions to help offset that. Brad was a great character to hate, an endless pit of greed and someone who seems to never think about anyone but themselves - a perfect villain that I think a lot of people will have worked for at some time or another. The stakes were high and deadlines tight but nothing felt really rushed to me - we didn’t quite get to see enough of Morgan’s mum Fiona, but that’s only a personal preference from a lifetime Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. Maybe she’ll get her own spin-off book! Luke was a lovely golden retriever of a person/demon - I was worried he’d be the usual snarky kind of moody demon who eventually lets down his guard to fall for Morgan, but he was actually a very soft and kind person who just wanted to be able to feel safe and wanted. Lovely main guy energy. I think Caitlin is another of my “will always buy” authors!

“When demons and douchebags mix”
(Paperback)
by Huttson Lo
As a companion to Rozakis's first book in the Everyday Enchantments universe, this couldn't be any further from that high school/PTA monster romp. Startups are hell, and tech ones moreso, then when you throw human souls into the mix, you get this romcom with added demons and douchebags on all sides. Filled with romance tropes but still charming with it, this is elevated by how things are intertwined between startup, romance and demons, although not necessarily of the hellish kind. The last third of the book is where it really gets motoring, when all the players are on stage at the same time, and Morgan's journey from low-level peon to educated negotiator is a sight to behold.

“work place setting with some humour”
(Paperback)
by Liz
It definitely has the office culture, pressures of job and family expectations. But did have a bit of humour to the 'real life' elements of the book.I did struggle a bit with the book, but in part it is a me problem rather than the book, as i read to escape work etc. I found my attention span did get lost, and it was mainly around all the office and marketing jourgen, the horrible bosses and grind of the office/work place.. But it just seemed to take its time to get to the finally which did feel rushed when it happened, due to the slow build up to it.
