“A provocative read”
(Paperback)
What would it really be like to live forever? For vampire Justine, forever is memories and faces slipping through her fingers, an aching loneliness, a lack of purpose. Her lover Keith is a former musician and addict, hands mangled in prison and a shadow of his former self. Justine pulls him out of his addiction and depression as they both lean into each other for comfort, understanding each other's fragility, their vulnerabilities and needs. Stainless is very character driven, a tragic tale of two lovers in the 1990's. It's quite different from your modern day vampires tales, it's not grandiose or heavy handed, it's not a world defying love that Keith and Justine have, if anything it's bleak. It feels very literary horror and is a slow burn too so prepare to wait it out a bit.
