Reviews: St. Benet's (1)
“twisty,grisly, snarky”
(Paperback)
by Janice Tangen
romantic-suspense, Norfolk-broads, series, serial-murder, torture, grisly, crime-fiction, retribution, thriller, attempted-murder, twisted, contemporary, divorced, local-law-enforcement, procedural, police-detectives, boats, vintage-auto, investigations, due-diligence, snarky, banter, audiobook, strong-characters, fast-pace, British-detective, unputdownable, Catholic-churches, clergy**** It's still a real winner in the investigation and plot twist arena but the bed hopping between members of the same force seemed unnecessary to me. There is a new DCI for cause and a replacement for the DI who was killed off in Broadland but the crew is much more cohesive now. Tanner still lives on that boat without running water. The victims who are tortured and murdered are all Roman Catholic clergy but trying to find the real thread that you know is there, that they are definitely not random, is a tough slog. The red herrings are sneaky, but the plot twists are beyond diabolical. I'm re-evaluating how I feel about this series but will try the next one. The audio is performed by Jonathan Keeble is basically terrific but does get a mite dramatic sometimes.
