My goodness what a brilliant little book , recommended to me by a wonderful book seller after a chat where I said I’d loved the 1883 & 1923 sagas of Yellowstone on tv. Wow they were right, it’s one of the best books Iv ever read the writing is sublime the characterisation a marvel. Yes there are troupes but remember this is a book about the Wild West and yes terrible things happened on both sides but you cannot and should not erase history. So if you know what your getting you’ll love it , next for me is lonesome dove

This was a book group read - and as a Western, not a genre I would ordinarily have chosen to read. However, it was so much more than just your typical western - It was more about maintaining belief when all hope is gone, a battle to survive against all odds and a perspective from the captives and the Apache. Only a thin volume 192 pages, but a real page turner.

Please do not waste your money on this awful book. Cliched, preposterous plot and devoid of colour and character. No tension to speak off, not a soul to warm to and seemingly no point, unless you are moved by the clunky religious references. I wasn't and I doubt very much whether you will either.
