Reviews: Spylark (3)
“A story full of cliff-hangers, danger and hope - I was hooked from beginning to end.”
(Paperback)
Spylark is a thrilling, adventure page-turner. A story full of cliff-hangers, danger and hope - I was hooked from beginning to end.
It is told with beautiful insight into the complexities of human nature and a deep understanding of how both children and adults are wired, so that as the reader I felt that I truly knew Tom, Maggie, Joel, Auntie Emily, Jim and the others. It was as though I was there with them in the book. The Lake District setting is woven throughout with intricate detail, such that you can almost smell Cedar Holme, where Tom lives by the river with Auntie Emily, and taste the Grasmere Gingerbread and freshly caught char which the characters enjoy.
I love this book! As well a giving me something very enjoyable and engrossing to read, it has given me a fresh perspective on friendship, forgiveness and the joy of the costly fight for good.
I look forward to reading Spylark many times again in the future and would recommend it to anyone (young or old!) who enjoys being gripped by a good book.
“Absolutely loved it”
(Paperback)
Great narrative and excellent read. Perfect for the genre - thriller, spy, action with gentle pathos. Loved it. Hope there is a sequel.
“Excitement from the first page”
(Paperback)
My 9yr old son just read the first chapter and came to me,
“Mum, this is really good, it starts with being exciting. Like, lots of books start with just telling you stuff about the character and then half way through it starts getting exciting. This is way better.”
He is now reading the second chapter!
