Sue Perkins is very funny. Not many books have me actually laughing out loud but this one did. Fascinating insight into her life and career.

In ways only the best comedic writers can, Perkins had me crying multiple times, guffawing out loud then bursting into a fit of laughter, before crying again. Written like she’s your intelligent best mate relaying these stories to you in a cosy pub; I now genuinely would like to be her friend. For someone who hasn’t read a biography before, Spectacles has definitely converted me. My only worry is that I may not find another equally fantastic memoir to read. I doubt there’ll be another celebrity one nearly as enjoyable, let alone beautifully written. Highly recommend.

Before I read this , I liked Sue Perkins. Now, I LOVE her. At times it's warm and sweet (could make a cake reference here but I'll refrain), at times it's sensitive and poignant, but mostly it's just really, really funny.

Witty, heartwarming, and heartbreaking all at once, Sue takes us back to her childhood, to university escapades, tv moments, and stories of friendship. All the way through she is honest and funny; the book makes for some seriously addictive reading - I particularly enjoyed the anecdotes about her beloved dogs. If you enjoy Sue Perkins' television work or like to read biographies, then you must pick this one up!

It was an interesting read - quite light in tone and certainly amusing at times, although I found it (primarily towards the end of it) a bit bland and I resorted to skim reading a bit. I did enjoy some of the quirky family tales - I could feel myself cringing and blushing on Sue's behalf at times. I liked that it was an easy book to dip in and out of. I liked that it mostly featured short paragraphs and some dialogue breaking the text up as well. It is a somewhat long read at 437 pages but I managed to read it in a few days, although I have been off on my Easter holidays at the time, so obviously it'll take you longer if your particularly busy but I reckon its a manageable read over said few days time (2-3 if your a quick reader or 5-6 otherwise perhaps - around about that). The book made me more aware of some of the work she's done in broadcasting that I wasn't previously aware of - travel shows and historical shows/documentaries, which I found interesting. Overall I'd say this is a good read if your a fan or otherwise curious about her and would like to read up about her background and so on.
