Reviews: Sol Searching (1)
“Self-indulgent drivel”
(Paperback)
Rarely have I come across such self-indulgent, self-congratulatory drivel. The author is shallow, judgemental, materialistic and hypocritical, treating her fellow Brits in Spain with open and embarrassing disdain. The very people who line her pockets as she makes a success of her local rag, are the ones she mocks for their northern accents or their greying hair. Her contempt for the lesser mortals who surround her in her chosen town, those who apparently have no culture and are not of her "calibre", is all the more preposterous coming from someone who clearly still only speaks very basic Spanish and hadn't heard of Gaudí before visiting Barcelona. All this from someone who purports to be a writer, but hasn't yet mastered the grammar and lexicon of her native tongue - the text is littered with errors. Shameful. I am not at all surprised that she struggled to find friends.
