A truly thrilling novel to read, its nice to find a good crime novel that stands up without needing all the gory details.Full of twists and turns it leaves you guessing til the VERY end, a rare quality indeed, with a believable ending that leaves feeling like you should have known all along.A must read that you will not be able to put down, a taster of what is to come from this incredible author.

This is a great introduction to Tom Thorne and some of the other names that you will become familiar with throughout the books. The storyline in this book really did give me the chills and was very well written. It sets the tone and standard for the future Tom Thorne novels and most certainly shouldn't be missed.

This book is an absolutely fantastic read! This has been my first by the author and it's convinced me to read more by him. The main character is incredibly life-like and the entire plot is as if it is taking place right outside of your window! I particularly like the monologues by the criminal as it gives us a very rounded feel of the plot. I must admit I'd been guessin 'who'd dun it' right until the end when all was revealed. The writer keeps us guessing and does a very good job of making us gasp quite loudly I might add!!It's an excellent and I would recommend it to anyone with an inquisitive mind.

As introductions go, you will be hard pressed to find a better one than this. The first DI Tom Thorne novel grips you from the very first page and does not let you go until the very last page. The story line is refreshingly unique in that the victims are not supposed to die, and by doing so at first leads Thorne to believe that the one who survived the attack is where the killer has made his first mistake. It is only when he realises the disturbing truth that the real nightmare begins of finding the person responsible before he strikes again with chilling results. I thoroughly enjoyed the book from the first page to the last, and can recommend DI Thorne to anyone who enjoys crime writing at its best.
