Reviews: Sky Thieves (9)
“A new one for my favourites list”
(Paperback)
by Trisha Jackson
This is a great book where the characters develop nicely over the course of the story. When Zoya gets kidnapped she’s taken on board a sky ship and from there there’s no turning back. Though she’s reluctant at first, she quickly gets pulled into the crew’s duties (no more slinking away from cleaning!) and learns how to swordfight. As her character develops, so does her friendship with the youngest crew member, Bucker, as well as adults Rosie, Beebee and Cid. Along with the final confrontation, there are meteor chases, volcanic eruptions and arguments with the ship’s doc, a crazy orange-haired scientist. It’s a book you want to read more than once. I’ve seen there’s a second in the series coming out this year so intrigued what this will bring!
“You don't want to put it down”
(Paperback)
by Beth Smith
You know you’re reading a terrific book when as soon as you put it away you want to come back to it immediately. That’s how I felt when reading Sky Thieves. The book takes you to an entirely new world, where meteor showers, crazy scientists and bungee jumping from airships seem like everyday things. Being a non-fiction reader myself, this book might have turned me into a fantasy lover. I’ve already recommended it to a few friends. It’s a truly exciting story. And whether you’re a fiction fan or non-fiction fan, I doubt you’ll be able to get enough of this beautiful world. Highly recommend!
“High adventure in the clouds”
(Paperback)
by Sharon at Maidstone
When Zoya is kidnapped from outside the orphanage that has been her home, she wakes up on board the sky thief ship The Dragonfly. The thieves of the Dragonfly only steal from the rich and, like Robin Hood, give to the poor. More a family than a band of pirates, they still have to avoid the authorities and Zoya begins to find out more about her own family and life as a pirate. Zoya is headstrong and a little undisciplined, but has a good heart and has to use her wit and bravery to defeat Lendon Kane, the man who killed her parents. A good old fashioned adventure of good verses evil, action packed and a fun read.
“Can't wait for more.”
(Paperback)
by Pauli Farrell
I am very upset that I can't just read about Zoya's adventures fast enough! This book will take you to the pirates and skyships world that you will never want to leave. Well done Dan Walker! I just can't wait for more.
“A wonderful story for the whole family!”
(Paperback)
by Anna M
I got an early copy of this book, but loved it so much I bought my own to support the author. Really brilliant read, making me excited for the whole sky thieves universe. I like how the book presents the friendship of young Zoya and Bucker and how through all the mischief they undoubtedly were favourited by all the crew of The Dragonfly. Each chapter ends with a cliff hanger and makes you want to read more. Good and easy to read family story. Bring on the second!
