I'm 12 and this was just about the right age for me, I also think this book would be very interesting for older readers. it is a very emotional book, very well written and gripping. I also like the characters, especially Skellig.It was just about the right length for me. By Isaac Cochrane.

This was a Year 7 book I had to read and at first I was rather reluctant. However, the story was so gripping with great characterisation of Michael and Mina and their growing friendship and their relationship with Skellig. I found Skellig very funny but also intriguing and I wasn't sure what his role was at first and if he would turn out to be a bad guy. I was really concerned for Michael's baby sister and felt Michael's tension through the writing. I would highly recommend this book, even to reluctant readers!! By Claudia, aged 11

Well, the other Saturday in work we were treated to a surprise visit from the one and only David Almond! Obviously, we asked him to sign stock and he very kindly dedicated this book for me too. So, I am now the proud owner of a 20th Anniversary Edition signed and dedicated - winner of a Saturday! Skellig is fabulous a story that will pull at your heart strings and make you smile - an absolute joy to read and I am very happy to recommend on to all. (Also secretly hoping David pops in again.)

Skellig is an amazing book . It gives the reader the information to actually act out the story like it is real . David Almond is a really inspiring author and his boy , he has written a lot of children's books ! Skelleg is one of his best book yet . I would recommend this book for 5-16 year olds .

Michael and his family have moved into the doer-upper across town that his parents loved despite the old man mess. They started work but then the baby came...and she's ill. Mum and baby are home from hospital when Michael thinks of going in the garage - he's been told not to as it's very wobbly! But he goes in all the same. He finds...he's not sure what... Michael also meets teh girl next door, Mina. she's home-schooled and has a very scathing view of school! She takes him to another old house down the road. It belonged to her Grandpa but right now it's boarded up - another doer-upper waiting. She takes him up to teh attic where they view a tawny owl nest. He takes her to see the "person" in the garage. Michael has felt this man's shoulder blades and Mina does too. What is he? It's when they have to move him to Mina's grandpa's house because the garage is so rickety they are scared it'll collapse on him that Mina takes off the man's jacket - his wings unfurl... But he still can't actually tell them what he is. But he does tell them he has to leave soon. Michael's baby sister has a heart operation and after his mum tells him and his dad of a strange man in the room the night before the operation.... Utterly superb. short chapters perfect for those who only want a bit at a time - although this would be hard to put down. I read this because it is the book that the Y6 teacher is reading to the class in Matt Goodfellow's The Final Year, knowing we had a copy at school I thought it would be good to read it.
