“Slow burn romance between two very different people”
(Paperback)
This is the third book in a series that features actors in a long running TV series called Gods of the Gates based on Greek and Roman mythology. I've read all three books and they were all funny, romantic and memorable. I appreciated that the two main characters in this book and characters in some of the other books were not always beautiful people with perfect bodies.
Peter has been an actor for years with mixed results, and has finally landed an audition for co-star in the immensely popular Gods of the Gates series. Peter wants the reputation and the financial security the role will bring. He is in his thirties and on the heavy side for an actor, and landing this role is everything for him. He meets a lovely, also heavyset Swedish woman named Maria, and they spend a memorable weekend together. Maria has a loving supportive family behind her, and Peter does not.
Imagine his surprise when she is also auditioning for a spot on the show - as his co-star, for a show that will run for six years. Peter doesn't want a relationship between them when they have to work so closely together for so long. His reasoning is that the fallout if they broke up would make it harder for them to do their job, and the show is the most important thing to him for the next six years. Not Maria.
Maria is a hoot. I love how she constantly threatens people with a jar of fermented herring, which I assume is pretty nasty if you didn't grow up eating it. Peter and Maria's romance does not run smoothly, with the six year pause while they work on the show, and even after the show ends, when Peter manages to persuade Maria to see him again. They still have the same issue: Peter's craving for security even if it isn't a good fit for either of them.
It was a delight to have characters from the earlier books appear in this one. This book can be read as a standalone. I received a review copy of this book from publisher Avon and Harper Voyager via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
“Slow Burn Romance”

Four and a Half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒
Ship Wrecked by Olivia Dade is the third book in her popular Spoiler Alert series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. I love this series, and Ship Wrecked is a wonderful addition.
Story Recap:
Maria has a one-night stand with Peter, both knowing it will be the last time they see each other. However, a bit later, they realize they have both been cast in a television show that will take them to a remote island for six years!
Peter knows that this part will give him much better choice roles when he’s done that will give him the financial stability he’s been looking for. He won’t do anything to ruin his chances, so he decides to stay away from Maria, no matter how strong his attraction is. Can Maria and Peter work together for six years while denying their chemistry?
My Thoughts:
This slow-burn romance was a lot of fun to read. It starts right in the middle of their one-night stand in Los Angeles and then continues on the Island where they film the television show. I thought filming a television show for six years was a bit much, but the author convinced me that this happens. It’s not like they are on the Island the entire six years either, as they have breaks for holidays etc.
I liked this romance very much as there was certainly chemistry, and on the show, they were lovers, so they had to pretend to love each other, while both vowing to keep their hands off each other in real life. This caused quite a push-pull for the romance during the book.
I also enjoyed the appearances of the previous characters in the series as it’s always comforting to see that they are still together and happy. Their correspondence between each other and the new characters in the tv show was hilarious.
Recommendation:
I highly recommend Ship Wrecked to anyone who enjoys romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
“Plus-size love interests, top tier banter, and some nice ~spice~”
(Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book! Maria and Peter have my heart and this book was the fun kind of read that I needed to get me out of a reading slump!
“A very slow burn...”
(Paperback)
The romance between Maria and Peter is possibly the slowest burn I've ever read (6 years to precise). I wasn't a fan of the surprise time jump or the way it was written unfortunately.
Overall it was enjoyable but there were parts I had to skim read as the book felt far too long in parts. The third act break up was very frustrating so be prepared to feel like throwing the book. I'm usually a big fan of Olivia Dade and definitely recommend her other books.
