This is the 2nd book in the Kate Marshall series and it is just as good as the first. When I read the first in this series Nine Elms I was worried it wouldn’t be as good as his other series then seeing this one wondering whether this could be as good as Nine Elms well it certainly is.. It is an excellent read. The characters are evolving and we find out more of what makes them tick but this detracts in no way from the pace of the book. It has a good unusual storyline. This I predict will be a very good series of books as the author just gets better and batter in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Robert Bryndza has hit the mark once again. I was drawn in from the very first chapter which had me gasping (as did the 2nd) . His descriptive writing pictures the scenes in the book so well and this is one of the things I love about Robert's writing. Shadow Sands is Book 2 in his new Kate Marshall Series, and a follow up to Nine Elms. Kate is an ex detective (turned university lecturer, via a job as a Private Investigator) who we learned about in Book 1, she has a dark past and a child from a relationship with her old boss, who turned out to be a serial killer. This, understandably, disturbed Kate badly and she turned to drink, Jake then was brought up by her parents by court order. There is a great recap in the early part of the book for anyone who hasn't read Book 1, but I' would highly recommend you read it first anyway, then you can just make the most of Robert Bryndza's writing and it is well worth it. This book starts with Kate and Jake scuba diving in the Shadow Sands while he is up to visit her during his summer holiday. It is here, while exploring a sunken village, that they come across a horrifying discovery. The body turns out to be that of a very strong swimmer, whose mother isn't about to let it rest.... (I won't go into the story further so as not to spoil it) Character development is excellent in this book, as it always is, and we come to learn a lot more about Kate, Jake, as well as about Tristan, her assistant in her work as private investigator., and I love this about the book. I enjoy getting to know Bryndza's characters and Kate is certainly another strong female protagonist, following in the footsteps of Erika Foster from his earlier series. This book is sure to be loved by fans of Bryndza as well as by new readers. If you enjoy descriptive writing that gets you deep into the book, a fast paced, action packed story, and some gruesome scenes to get your teeth into, then give this a try. Book 2 in the Kate Marshall series and yet again Robert Bryndza has written an absolute cracker of a book. From the beginning this book had me completely hooked, I just loved everything about it, the storyline , the characters and I really enjoy the rapport Kate has with her side kick Tristan. I did guess correctly quite early on who the perpetrator was but that certainly didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this book.

Kate Marshall #2 Kate and her son Jake are on a scuba trip on a reservoir when they discover the body of a young man. The police quickly close the case up the mother of the dead man asks Kate to further investigate the case. Kate believes that there has been a cover up over the young man's death. Then a young Italian lecturer from the University goes missing without trace. Kate .earns she's not the only person to have vanished. We met Kate and Tristan in Nine Elms, the first book in this series. Kate is flawed up that makes her more likeable. We get to know Tristan a bit better too. There were parts of the book I found a little slow up it didn't spoil my enjoyment. Theres a few twists to ,especially your interest. The story is told from Kate's perspective with snippets from Magdalena. This is another well written mystery that will keep you guessing. Shadow Sands is the second book in the Kate Marshall series by British author, Robert Bryndza. While diving with her son in the Shadow Sands Reservoir, Kate Marshall discovers the recently-dead body of a young man, Simon Kendal. The police quickly (too quickly?) rule it accidental drowning, but it doesn’t sit right with Kate, a former police detective and now lecturer in Criminology at Ashdean. Simon’s mother asks Kate to investigate, citing Simon’s fitness as an Olympic-level swimmer, and the absence of alcohol in his system. Lyn Kendal suspects Simon’s best friend, Geraint Jones, but Kate and her research assistant, Tristan Harper, note the inconsistencies in both the police case and this theory. Then an attractive young professor at Ashdean with an interest in “The Fog Phantom of the A1328” goes missing on a foggy Sunday from the A1328. Kate and Tristan follow up on the young woman’s research and begin to suspect there is a serial killer at work. There’s plenty of good detective work apparent here, despite Kate’s handicap of a lack of access to police resources. Her assistant’s talents are clearly an asset. Bryndza gives the reader a solid plot with a few red herrings and a nice twist, a little Nine Elms Cannibal distraction and an exciting climax. The ends are neatly tied up in the epilogue, with a promise of more from this pair. Great British crime fiction.
