Following the death of his father and subsequent impoverishment of his close knit family, Seb Faber loses his way, and a spell in Feltham Young Offenders’ Institute for an assault charge makes his uncle demand that he enter the army. A promising Army career is prematurely ended following a recurrent injury and Seb’s contacts secure him a job in a City bank, which as you can imagine is somewhat of a culture shock. A lucrative offer to secure finance for a new appetite suppressant drug starts to turn sour, however, and when Seb uncovers illegal practices and murky characters, he is faced with a choice to become rich beyond his wildest dreams, or follow his moral compass and do the right thing. This is a GREAT debut, I couldn’t put it down and read it in two sittings! Seb is a hugely likeable, funny and super smart lead character, beautiful girlfriend Sophia and their families are warm and well developed, and the thread of humour that runs throughout this novel will have you smirking and nodding your head in agreement at Seb’s wry insights about City life, its motley cast of often bizarre characters and its all too beguiling temptations. I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s writing style, the plot is carefully crafted and well executed and the twist at the end was totally unexpected and clever. I really liked the reference to Jilly Cooper too - I love an author who acknowledges his influences and Kingsmill Moore pulls off a great tribute to not just adventure/thriller writers of the past but also the comedic slapstick of Riders and its ilk. I really hope to read more of Seb Faber in his next adventures, he’s certainly got his work cut out for him and I 100% believe he’s up to the job. Huge thanks to the author for an advance reading copy in return for an honest review, I thoroughly enjoyed my bank holiday weekend with Seb Faber and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this novel to fans of Frederick Forsyth, Le Carre, John Grisham, Karin Slaughter, David Baldacci and Steve Cavanagh.

This book is a cracking read! Right from the outset the action and the mystery unfolds at breakneck speed and never lets up - this is a genuine page turner that you simply can't put down! Full marks to Mr Kingsmill-Moore on his debut novel, Seb Faber is an intriguing central character and I can't wait to read what happens to him next.....

I read Selection in a few days, and I really enjoyed it. I really immersed myself as I followed Seb’s story through the UK and onto South Africa, which made me laugh at times, made me cross at others, and had my adrenaline racing during the twists and flips! This is the author’s debut novel and has so much heart. I highly recommend. Oh, and the poem at the very end is a beautiful bonus.

As a debut novel, this is impressive. Kingsmill Moore keeps you guessing until the very end. You’re walking along paths you think are familiar when you suddenly realise you’re nowhere of the sort; you’ve ended up at a totally unexpected destination…Here’s to more Seb Faber…

An epic read with loads of twists and turns from a writer who clearly has done his research, knows how to pen a character and is happy throw you off the scent of the actual ending….. A belting page turner… smatterings of Rainbow 6 (Clancy) a dash of Archer I felt… Loved it Ed Watson
