Former friends to lovers, spicy romcom with body positivity and grumpy/grumpy mcs?  I need more please! Karl and Molly were perfect together.  He is the kind hearted cinnamon roll wrapped in a grumpy, foul mouthed exterior.  Molly the audiobook narrator, recovering from divorce, misplaced guilt and loss.  She is body positive, a fighter, has a work ethic that would unalive a lesser woman and a bad case of poor self-esteem and poor choices of men. Can I just say that I know this is set in small town USA but Karl in my brain is Scottish.  With the red hair and foul mouth but kind heart he couldn't be anything else, lol.  He and Molly have this rapport that just leaps off the page.  The banter between him and Matthew and Athena if so sibling-like, it had me chortling.  I was so happy that BOTH mc's are not the typical lead characters, neither of them fit the "beauty norms" but each of them are beautiful characters inside and out. Do things happen fast? Yes. Do they have a friendship foundation to build on? Yes. Is Karl overzealous in his attempts to have Molly stay? Yes.  Do I still want them to have the bestest HEA? Big YES! I am not a fan of the miscommunication trope but at least here both are as guilty as the other at not communicating and assuming the other knows what they are thinking.  They finally recognise this and when the communication is repaired, everything moves along nicely. Karl is a consent king, he feeds the people he loves, he's not afraid of spicy or monster romance books and is even part of a k!nky book club!  His female friends love and adore him, he's a father figure to his staff and he would rather delete himself than cause harm to Molly.  Molly is not afraid of going for what she wants, tormenting Karl or crossing the country when she thinks she lost him.  I completely loathed her ex and my level of evil joy at his undoing was epic! The book had a nod to so many 80's and 90's teenage love romcoms - I felt like I was reliving my teenage years with Karl and Molly. PS I was so happy to see an alternate HEA - not every HEA needs the mcs to be marries, having a pack of kids, etc.  The setting suited Molly's ideas of her happy ever after and Karl never tried to make her change her mind.
