“My Favorite of the Trilogy”
(Paperback)
This was a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy albeit not what I'd consider a "definitive" conclusion but more of a "happy at the moment".
I must admit that it was a nice surprise to have less turmoil and more peace between Ruby and James than per usual. This one was more about growth and gaining maturity both in themselves and in their relationship. This book revolved more around the contentious relationship between the villainous elder Beaufort and James and his sister Lydia. It was heartwarming to see the love and support that Lydia received in her situation from James, both her AND his friends and especially from her partner. And it was also nice to see Ruby's acceptance into the "boys' club" of James's friends.
So as a takeaway, this was probably my favorite of the trilogy simply because of the growth arc, certain characters getting their comeuppance and the relative peacefulness of the storyline. My only caveats for the series were the speed of the Wren and Ember relationship and quite frankly the whole idea of that relationship arc and the number of times that Ruby had to forgive a misbehaving James. Ruby was by far my favorite thing about the entire series. Her spunkiness and wise-beyond-her-years demeanor were endearing and cheer worthy.
My sincere thanks to the author, NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for providing the free early arc of Save Us for review. The opinions are strictly my own.
