Reviews: Rummage (1)
“Not Quite as Expected, but Interesting”
(Paperback)
I think for some reason that I was expecting some sort of “eccentric collectors” dimension to this, but in fact it’s mainly about the history of inventive business ideas based around the use of waste products- often from other industries.
Nevertheless it turns out to be quite fascinating in places, with many anecdotal examples of practices which have either disappeared or gone underground (the downside of living next to some of these is both horrifying and a clear signal as to the source of our current environmental and nuisance laws, for example). I also now know what a “boneyard” is, and have a new perspective on Wright’s Coal Tar soap!
Recommended.
