I am working my way through all the Richard Bachman titles this year and trying to find any connective tissue. This book is not a horror story but more an exploration of grief and trauma after the death of the title character's son. It does move a little slowly to start but it has an incredibly emotional edge that I wasn't expecting to hit as hard as it did. Not an essential King/Bachman read but one that might surprise a few people. 3.5 stars
