An important addition to WWII literature, offering insight into the hearts and minds of three high-ranking officials (two American and one Japanese) who were forced into impossible decisions, culminating in the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as offering clear wider context for events. Very easy to read, incisively researched and offering a powerful case for the “future lives saved” argument for the use of the bombs, which to this day is still hugely controversial. Highly recommended as a perfect companion to the forthcoming (at the time of writing) film Oppenheimer.
