I felt similar feelings when reading fourth wing with the intrigue and the characters. I am stunned with the ending and I’m going to need the next book asap! I do feel as though some parts were a bit fast paced in the middle but the content was soooo gooood! Osta….. I love you so much.4.25⭐️

In this first installment of The Esprithean Trilogy, part of the same universe as The Ascended, we meet Fia Riftborne, a refugee from a hated, destroyed land who must hide her magic in a hostile land. When she loses control and harms the daughters of a noblewoman in front of the infamous General Laryk Ashford, he gives her a choice: join his elite military unit, or face execution. She takes the first option, obviously. Intrigue, romance, and danger ensue. I will be honest, if you come to Riftborne from the Ascended, you will notice the authors' debut is noticeably slower and sparser, with little description and uneven world building, particularly in the beginning. That said, the second book is well worth it, and the intersection/crossover with the end of the Ascended is so satisfying, and hints at a truly expansive universe in the works! For anyone who loved the Ascended, I would recommend Riftborne, with the foreknowledge that it is much slower than later books, but has a real payoff at the end. I found this book, very interesting. The blurb of the book grabbed my attention from the start and I didn't want to stop reading once I had started. The writing style was amazing and gave the book a clear pace to read. With the way the story developed with the twists and turns occuured that kept me wanting to keep reading. There was very clever character development and I just wanted to keep reading. The ending of the book, has made me intrigued to read more by this author.
