Oh my gosh.. This book is amazing. I have just finished reading and would like to thank Penguin for authorising me to read this before publishing, and I'd like to thank Bree and Parker for writing an amazing story. Genre: Fantasy with romance. Tropes: Forced Proximity, Blackmail, Hidden Identities, Politics Spice Level: Mild, only 2 sex scenes. Lots of flirting. I think if you're a fan of Powerless and Fourth Wing, you'll definitely enjoy this book, as personally I think it combines elements of both really well. Before I get into it, I gave it an overall 4.5 star rating. The writing style is very easy to digest. It's not complicated, but not dumbed down either, it's a really nice smooth reading experience as someone who is Dyslexic and has a hard time connecting to some authors writing style. I really enjoyed the worldbuilding straight off the bat, but I wanted more history of Riftdremar and what actually happened. Character wise: I really enjoyed Fia. She was giving off "not like other girl vibes" during some scenes of this book, but we see character growth throughout and it was nice to see that on page. Osta annoyed me, I just didn't gel with her character, her choices, her words. But she worked with the plot as a prompt to help our character progress through the story. Laryk, oh Laryk. I liked him, I liked his attitude, his confidence and his overall character. I feel like there could have been a little bit more background to him for me to be 100% into him. But overall, he worked well for the plot. The pace of this was really nice, it wasn't slow and it wasn't go, go, go. I will say, I found all the lessons in the compound a little lacklustre. I felt like they could have been more on page, or just in a bit more detail. It was a lot of telling rather than showing the progress. But not so much that I was like "Hey, when did we cover that?" or "When did she become so good at this?" The plot really picks up around the 65%-70% mark and I could hardly keep the book down. I was engrossed! I needed to know more, and I went from a slow, distracted reader to zooming through the ending. THE ENDING!!! Wow, what an ending. I didn't see the ending coming, not sure what I was expecting, but I was shooked! I need book 2 asap, and book 1 isn't even out on the shelves yet! So many questions I have, and I didn't get any answers. Thank you again to Penguin Random House and Bree Grenwich and Parker Lennox for this book, I cannot wait to get a finished copy for the trophy shelf!

The first instalment to the Esprithean series let us meet Fia and learn the world of the Esprithean. This is a perfect book for romantasy fans who enjoyed ACOTAR and Fourth Wing. The FMC is likable and interesting in her journey and the complex political situation with mysterious magic keeps reader hooked in the story. Tropes in this book: •Military academia •Slow burn •Enemies to lovers •Current politics and important history •Amazing cliffhanger •Magic wielding FMC

ABSOLUTE PERFECTION, 6⭐️. It’s not often I give a book 6 stars but wow. What a breath of fresh air this was. I loved every single thing about it. The writing, characters and the outstanding story. I have a feeling Duskbound is going to be even better ?
