The opening two pages had me hooked and I found myself immediately invested in learning who the woman was that had been murdered and why there was a camera in the room recording every moment. Perhaps most importantly, how did the murderer know to destroy it afterwards? As the chapters unfold an array of characters are introduced who all have such varied histories and present difficulties. These include Natalie, a social media influencer, Andrew the manager of Shanamore cottages where Natalie has gone to stay unbeknownst to her husband, Audrey, a writer for an online news website, and Seanie a police sergeant. I particularly loved the use of the various video functions (play, pause, rewind and fast forward) to navigate though the story from the present back to key moments in the characters’ pasts. This made it a really gripping, engaging and fast paced read and I was never quite sure where I would be taken next. I think this in turn made the reveal all the more surprising and I just didn’t see it coming at all. I love how I found myself directed to think in a certain way and to place my suspicions on completely the wrong people. The final chapter also made me smile and provided a neat conclusion with no issue left unresolved. In addition, this book cleverly explores the power and knowledge someone can gain from what is posted online, especially in a world where social media is so prevalent. I think it has also reminded me as a reader not to always believe the stereotypes!

I was looking forward to reading this and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Rewind is written from a number of different perspectives and goes back and forward through the days surrounding a murder. These events are watched on camera by Andrew the manager of the holiday cottages. This is a little different from other thrillers in that the murder happens right at the start but the book tells the story by looking back as well as moving it forward in the present. There are a lots of twists and turns throughout the story. Whilst I didn’t find any of the characters particularly likeable, I found them well described and was interested in their next moves and what events in their past were shaping their current ones. The changing narrator made the book very fast paced and the little symptoms between chapters was a nice little touch to fit with the video theme. Difficult to put down!

It says something when you get given a free copy to review, accidentally leave it at work on Friday and are so caught up in the story you have to BUY it because you can't stand not knowing what happens over the weekend! Rewind is everything a good thriller should be, with complex intelligent characters, shock twists and cliffhangers a-plenty! I loved the social media element of the book and although shocking the plot was perfectly believable, adding to the creep factor. Although there is talk of child abuse and paedophilia it was done in a sensitive and intelligent way without being overly graphic. Normally anything involving those topics instantly puts me off, but it was integral to the book and the author navigated this minefield well. I can't wait to read her next book!

What a wonderful story that draws the reader in from the start and does not let them go until the final page. The setting of the holiday cottage was the part that initially drew me to this book, and the idea of a surveillance camera being set up secretly in the location since this is something we often hear horror stories about. The voyeuristic nature of the preface and the idea that a murder has been recorded on said camera brings into consideration both moral and legal dilemmas and adds a sense of conflict to an already mysterious plot. The sole girl alone in the cottages and her subsequent murder by a shadowy figure is put horror folklore, but with a modern twist and the fact that the murder was aware of the camera. The setting is perfect for such a remote plot to occur, and although I will not reveal the end for future readers, suffice to say it was a tense and chilling read and I'd love to explore more from this talented author.

I fully enjoyed reading Rewind. I found the plot to be clever and unique, it isn’t often within a book that you find the plot jumping backwards and forwards to reveal more of the story. I like the way you almost knew from the beginning who the murder was, but had to wait right up until the end to find out why they had felt the need to go that far. I enjoyed getting to see Audrey’s progression as a journalist and found her character to be my favourite. I did feel that sometimes the story could get a little confusing with the jumping through time. I sometimes had to reread a chapter to remind myself where we were within the story which I found slightly frustrating but I did enjoy the story so I feel it is worth the 5 stars.
