“A wonderful, unique memoir”
(Paperback)
This is such a beautiful book, a fitting epitaph for a singular woman. Written in a highly conversational style, the informal, slightly madcap structures and prose are utterly engaging and uniquely fascinating. Never less than completely open and honest, yet at times knowingly self-contradictory and almost confused, this is at times a painful, heartbreaking read, as well as a very funny one. Of course O'Connor's death adds a deep poignancy and resonance, but even without that, the depth of expression here makes for a sad reflection on modern society and the many ways in which it tries to cancel people who have something controversial to say. And after all, of course, she was right, wasn't she.
