Without discussing the plot of this fourth and final instalment in the Red Riding Quartet, I'd just like to acknowledge that it draws together threads from the three previous books in a way I never thought possible. The characterisation, as ever, is stunning, hyper-real, and the prose once again lurking somewhere between poetry and the hypnogogic rhythms of nightmare. David Peace's Red Riding Series is quite simply one of the greatest works of literature I have ever read.
