Reviews: Reboot (2)
“Definitely not just another teen love story”
(Paperback)
In this future dystopia if a person catches the virus KDH they are likely to reboot when they die. They come back faster and stronger than before with amazing abilities to heal. The Reboots are slaves, used as enforcers by the authorities and hated and feared by humans. The longer the person is dead before they reboot the less human they are and more useful to the authorities.
This is the story of Wren who was dead for 178 minutes before her reboot and her new trainee Callum who was only dead for 22 minutes. Their relationship is central to the action.
This is not just another dystopian story with zombies. These Reboots are still kids but are deadly and unstoppable. Wren and Callum’s story tells you some of the history behind their society, the heartless evil of the authorities and yet there is still warmth and friendships amongst the Reboots. Dark and violent in places, but written with pace and action, a great read.
“Interesting, but not groundbreaking in ALL areas..”

When I first started to read Reboot, I got butterflies because the concept is so interesting...! I was also ecstatic at the idea of a female character who wasn't destined to fall head-over-heels in love with the closest male main, as Wren started out as cold, emotionless and no-nonsense.
A few chapters in after she meets Callum I realised the love plot was coming, but still hoped in vain it would deviate from the usual 'girl sees boy, girl turns to jelly' character development.
Unfortunately, it just wasn't to be... it was quite odd how Wren could go from cold and emotionless to gooey with a soft caramel center in the space of a few chapters... but even though Reboot is cliche in that aspect, it's still remarkably different from all of the other books featuring the 'undead' out there. It's unique and well-written, so not all bad!
However, it's not something to pick up if you're wanting to venture away from the typical 'Life is Boring, Enter Boy' story line most YA novels go for these days...
