“Absolutely wonderful!”
(Paperback)
Could not put the book down. I laughed, I cried and felt such a connection to the story. I can’t help but recommend this to everyone. A must read!
Can’t wait for Ready Player Two!
“Amazing”
(Paperback)
This is one of the best books I have ever read. I could not put it down when I started it. I've never been much of a big reader but this took my breath away.
I was sad when I finished it because I enjoyed it that much!
“Ready Player Win!!”
(Paperback)
This is one of the most epic and geekiest books I have ever read and as a bookseller I am recommending it to everyone. Even as a child of the 90's I loved the huge amount of 80's pop culture references, the relatability to the main character Wade and the total want to be a part of the hunt.
We're pushing it in the shop and we've had so many customers coming back and saying they loved it! COMPLETELY AWESOME!
“Brilliant read for all ages”
(Paperback)
Based in 2044 this is the story of 17 year old Wade Watts. The World is a dark place, famine, unemployment, lack of resources abound and the future is very bleak. The one escape that most people look forward to is logging into the Virtual World of OASIS. This interactive ‘experience’ is free and many people prefer it to the reality of their own lives.
The creator of OASIS, James Halliday, has created a quest within OASIS with a prize of mega millions and overall control of OASIS. The quest is to find 3 keys, which lead to 3 gates and the final prize of Halliday’s egg.
Hundreds of people have tried for years to solve the puzzles to reach the egg, but they haven’t even reached the first key. The IOI organisation (a corrupt company) are keen to take control of OASIS so that they can start charging for it.
Everything changes when Wade finds the key to the first gate. He is now hunted!
This is a brilliant story, with many changes in direction. Full of reference to the 1980s popular culture and early video games it is a mine of information and nostalgia for those who grew up in those times. Today’s younger readers will also love it as many of them are now discovering these games.
The isolation felt by many that log into the OASIS can be mirrored in today’s society and makes this a thoughtful as well as compelling read.
To be recommended to all. You won’t be able to put it down!
“A thrilling love letter to gaming culture”
(Paperback)
This book is, quite simply, one of the best books I've ever read. Without giving much away, it's a fantastic story that romps through the virtual reality every gaming geek has dreamed of.
It covers all the classic points - good versus evil, a hint for lost treasure, shot through with a love story and lots and lots of PvP action - in a unique and satisfying mix.
The sections set in the 'real world' are brilliantly imagined, and set up a real counter point to the near-perfect virtual reality.
Buy this book, read it, and fall in love - yes, there might be gaming references you might not get, that's a generational thing - but I guarantee you, you will not regret turning one single page.
