I’ve always loved this series of books and look forward to my “Summer Read” every year. Ransom is the latest offering from Daniel Silva featuring Gabriel Allon, erstwhile spy and art restorer.I think the author has easily managed to extricate his hero from the Israeli secret service and transform him into a detective solving crimes which are art related. In this book Gabriel tries to solve a crime when a husband who is an art client asks him to locate his missing wife. This takes up most of the first part of the book as Gabriel travels across the Europe in pursuit.The second half of the novel restores Gabriel to the espionage setting and is completely up to date mentioning the Ukraine War and current geopolitics, mixing fact and fiction very cleverly.The disappearance part of the plot was fast paced although I did guess some of it before the big reveal- that being said as I am lover of this type of fiction so it was no surprise to me that I was able to do this!The espionage story was quite complex and contained a lot of information and commentary about the current world political situation. However sadly it was quite believable!I’m now entering the long wait for the next book by this author- looking forward to September 2027!Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.
