Reviews: Rain Men (3)
“Real Cricket for Real Cricketerrs”
(Paperback)
Rain Men is about what cricket is really about - beating yourself and your own team - the opposition may (or may not) get beaten in the process. This book captures the essence of the game - no, more than a game, way of life - and every single page is both hilarious but also true of cricket - and life. Brilliant. I have lost count of the number of times I have re-read it.
“Rain Men”
(Paperback)
The greatest book on cricket ever. If you have ever played cricket at any level at all, you will realise that Marcus Berkmann has captured exactly what cricket at any level below county cricket standard is all about. There are very few books that I can read twice; this one I have read several times and will do so again. He explains why your 'team-mates', not the other team, are the real opposition, and how to avoid paying for a round of drinks, pre or post-match, and puts it all together in hilarious, but entirely accurate, form. An amazing book.
“Rain Men”
(Paperback)
Quite simply one of the funniest books on our national obsession with cricket that you will ever read. And there is now an equally funny follow-up (Zimmer Men) which revisits the team some years later as the ravages of time begin to effect their ability to chase the ball to the boundary but has no effect on their ability to consume large amounts of cake at the tea interval.Wonderful stuff
