Wayne Osbourne has produced an outstanding book which charts just five days during July 1916 on the Somme. There have been many books written about the Battle of the Somme but this one gives a unique perspective on a small corner of the battlefied. It is maticulously researched and so much detail is given that you can feel the emotions of the troops as they prepared to go into battle. The book takes you hour by hour through the five days highlighting the highs and lows of the battalions as they tried to capture Quadrangle Trench. A wonderful read.
