“Just Gorgeous”
(Paperback)
by Athena
If you aren't into an awesome expirimental sci-fi with elements of romance, comedy, snobbery, tragedy, redemption, found family, magick, science, black trans identity, asian trans identity, and out of the box typesetting & fonts that beautifully set the mood, give this a pass. If you're into any of the above, read this book! It is incredibly hard to review and provide a synopsis without spoiling some part of it, so let's say a pair of star (dimension) crossed lovers, one a former magickal girl, and one a former mech pilot try to sort out their past, present, and their future. Every speaking character is distinct and important, whether currently or formerly, or both. The fonts are the markers of where the characters are in time & space, which is incredibly helpful as the switch is often mid word. If you struggle with the pretentious artist type of person, please make your way through the book as far as you can, you will be rewarded. I feel a lot of people might struggle with this specifically (I almost did), but I assure you that is part of the experience of this book, and it is absolutely worth it. This book is an experience, an opportunity for reflection, an exploration of childhood anime. Of love, of mundanity, of all kinds of human desires. Gorgeous.
