Reviews: Phantom (1)
“Gritty, with plenty of twists to keep you reading”
(Paperback)
When I first learned about this book, I was very excited. It looked right up my street, so I was thrilled to receive a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
The world depicted in this novel is reminiscent of Altered Carbon, High-Rise, and Elysium, where the wealthy live in the sky while the poor are left to a littered, ruined ground or, in this case, ‘undercity’. It’s a gritty world Nova inhabits, and she makes tough decisions to survive. She’s not afraid to appear cruel, and will do what it takes to survive no matter the cost. Unfortunately, she’s also pretty ableist at times, which is hard to overlook. That being said, there’s plenty to like about Phantom, from queer girls to cool tech, pleasing twists, and intriguing antagonists. It’s thrilling and fast-paced, with plenty of surprises in store.
