Nothing much happens in a Jane Austen book, people talk to each other, go to not-very-exotic places, have a lot of feelings... and that's pretty much it. Yet somehow I'm always dying to read the next chapter. Its all about character, human interaction and in every one of her books I meet people who are just like somebody I know. The extraordinary thing about Austen's books is how the characters learn from their mistakes and become better people, which is rare enough in a book, let alone in real life. She seems to understand the human condition like someone who has lived a thousand years, she knows we want to see redemption and to understand ourselves better, so she very kindly gives us life lessons by taking the worst aspects of a personality, turning them into individual characters, and analysing them through the mind of an intelligent heroine. Then, to top it all off, she gives you the perfect ending every time. Of course, I absolutely loved Persuasion.

I loved this book. It took me a little while to get into as I’d been out of reading classics for a couple months and always find the first one the hardest to get started on, but as soon as I got going I couldn’t put it down. The characters are portrayed so brilliantly that you will feel pure love or pure hatred (ok maybe that’s a bit strong, but strong annoyance) for certain characters. I also like how the main character isn’t portrayed as super popular and loved amongst her family and friends - everyone is shown with both their dark and light sides. It’s ugly and beautiful at the same time. I highly recommend reading this!

This book is simply perfect. This is one of my favorite Jane Austen books. Their story is amazing and is worth reading. The love story between the two is one of my favourites.

I like many others love Jane Austen, they are all love stories some about secrets that really should be told, judging people from first looks but my favourite novel is persuasion the characters are so real and the whole narrative about second chances and unending love is simply beautiful. Move over Mr Darcy bring on Captain Wentworth x

I am in love with this book! I had to buy a new copy because the one I bought at Chawton in 1996 was getting tatty as I'd re-read it so often. I love the slow burn story of Anne and Frederick being reunited, of the strength that she has to find to stand up for herself, all the while making it appear as if she is as submissive and compliant as her place in society would have her be. I rejoice with her that she manages to win away from her fairly ghastly family into the company of a much nicer set of people.Read it yourself, and decide which set of people you would rather be with!
