Reviews: Parenting Hell (8)
“Great book”
(Hardback)
I really enjoyed this book. It was so easy to read and funny. I love the podcast series they do. Even though my children are now young men I still really enjoy the way they talk and write about the trials of parenting and life in general and it really takes me back to when my kids were young. It was great to read the interviews with their parents and partners too - a great insight behind the boys. Very enjoyable, light hearted read.
“Doesn't contain advice, but does make you feel better. So relatabley funny!”
(Hardback)
If I had to sum up this book in two words they'd be: relatabley funny.
Perfect gift for any parent but especially those with young children.
I do listen to the Parenting Hell podcast, though I do not have kids myself, and it is always full of real honest talk between two dads that also happens to be extremely funny. The authenticity is what draws me back each episode, that and the multitude of experiences between Rob, Josh, and their guests. They talk about the big stuff, the mundane stuff, and the inconsequential tasks all inter-dispersed with absurd moments of hilarity. I especially loved that we finally get to hear from Rob and Josh's significant-others, Lou and Rose respectively, who are mentioned a lot in the podcast and now they can finally have their say. It actually makes me want to also buy the audio book just so I can hear the interviews myself rather than read the transcripts. They've shown it's possible to talk about parenting and all the highs and lows that come with it in a meaningful way without taking their role as care-providers too seriously, this makes it very easy to connect with their experience regardless of where you are in your parenting stage.
The book is great, reads like a conversation between two friends and it's literally the best gift to give parents of younger children. There's no advice in the book, just two dad's struggling through parenthood that'll make you feel better knowing there are other people who are doing worse parenting than you.
“So funny and a great read for everyone - not just parents!”
(Paperback)
I'm not a parent but I love the podcast and this has all of that energy and more. Josh and Rob bring a spark to every story and anecdote, and the guests simply add to this. It's so joyful to read and I'd really recommend it to anyone who wants a book that feels like having a good laugh with friends.
