Reviews: Paddington’s Finest Hour (3)
“A Fine Hour Indeed!”
(Paperback)
As a fan of the Paddington books as a child, I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this collection of stories in exchange for a review. Needless to say, even as an adult, the enjoyment of these books has not faltered.
All of the well-known characters are present (from the Brown family to the irate Mr Curry) and the scenarios (a cookery programme in one story and a variety performance in the next) lead to the usual mix of slapstick humour and timeless charm that any collection of Paddington stories always excel in. A special mention should also go to Peggy Fortnum and R.W. Alley for their impeccable illustrations.
The Paddington books, 'Finest Hour' included, are excellent for young readers wanting to start reading by themselves, reading out loud to a parent or even still ideal for parents to read to their kids.
As a bookseller, Paddington Bear is always a go-to recommendation for me to utilise. After reading 'Paddington's Finest Hour', it's easy to see why!
“wonderful accident- prone Paddington ”
(Paperback)
Who doesn't love Paddington? He is accident-prone but endearing. Michael Bond is a genius in his creation of this lovable bear from deepest Peru. As with all the other Paddington books, it is full of brilliantly funny short stories and illustrations. It is wonderful for children just discovering Paddington and very nostalgic for those older readers. Many thanks to the publishers for sending me this copy to review.
“It's nice to have a bear around the house”
(Hardback)
The very sad departure of Mr Bond to the great library in the sky prompted me to revisit the most recent - and now sadly last ever - Paddington story.
What really shines through is Michael Bond's deep and very obviously genuine love for people. It's so sweet and sensitive, and you're just endeared to Paddington right from the off. And you're filled with his sense of wonder and experiencing typical, ordinary things anew.
Timeless, classic, and utterly essential reading. If you're an adult and haven't read these, I GUARANTEE they will cheer you up.
As highly recommended as recommended can be!
