One Wrong Turn is an AMAZING thriller that is gripping, fast paced with suspense and twists I just didn’t see coming. With deadly consequences you will not be able to put this down! I loved the narrative between the past and the present and this will be a book I will be talking about for a very long time! Just brilliant and very clever. Two couples, late at night. One stranded by the side of the road, a baby chair hiding a secret, and the other on an unplanned drive after cutting short a weekend break. It's dark, wet, and the couple driving the car are feeling fractious. They too have secrets. The immediate sense of foreboding in One Wrong Turn is so intense and I was immediately drawn in, with the claustrophobic opening and the clever telling of each couple's back story, played out compellingly, through a series of alternating flash backs; so many times I felt as if I was almost 'watching' the story unfold through a virtual '4th wall', and it's rare for a novel to create such imagery for me. Some excellent play on trickery and yes, 'wrong turnings', but done with such subtlety as to create pitch-perfect pace - I devoured One Wrong Turn in a couple of days.

Wow wow wow, once picked up I couldn't put it down, had to keep reading, short chapters really helped here. Psychological thriller of the best kind, the tension just kept building and building, I loved it and would highly recommend. Thanks to publisher for arc.

have driven through Bodmin Moor in the fog. It was a wrong turn. I felt sick and afraid that I was completely lost. At least I didn't have weird strangers in the back like the characters in this book had. This is a well plotted story about a couple who pick up a family whose car has broken down. The woman is injured and needs a hospital but Cornwall is an isolated and vast place, as well as being dark and cold in the winter. Written in short chapters to keep the pace tight, (in the first person for the driver and third from others) each chapter revealing something to pull the reader along. The story is told in two timelines: one in the present and the other that follows the family up to the point where their car breaks down and the timelines meet. Brilliant suspense. Of course, nothing is at it first appears and when it looks one way, then it changes. Around the last quarter of the book the story becomes a bit of an action-thriller as it leads to its conclusion. Perhaps because I know this part of the world so well, but the location is definitely a main character, even if the author made a few parts up. Hey, it's fiction after all. Wonderfully well written, ensuring that perception, angst, intuition and sympathy are authentically portrayed. A really chilling, atmospheric and tense read. This is what a psychological thriller should be. Loved every minute of it. Oh, and don't pick up strangers...

This book is delightfully bonkers! And I mean that in a good way. It grabbed me from the off, held me captive throughout, spitting me out at the end, exhausted but satisfied. We start with Abi and Ben driving home early from a weekend away. Abi is annoyed at Ben for putting his job before her, again. So much so that she misses the turning they should have taken. Which is good for us readers, as if they had made that turn, they wouldn't have literally nearly bumped into Paul as he tried to flag them down. They ignore him but soon after come across a broken down car in a lay-by and a woman with a baby. Ben persuades Abi to stop this time, and she does, and they pick them up... We then go back in time to see how Paul, Samantha, and baby Isla got to where Abi and Ben found them... And slowly start to realise - at the same time as Ben and Abi - that things are not always as they seem and that things are about to get hot and heavy, and very very dangerous... OMG this book delivered punch after punch after shock after surprise. Often deliciously over the top. Well, maybe at the time, but after all was said and done, after all the secrets came out, the deceptions revealed, I actually sat back and applauded the author for such a well plotted book. The way that he inserted the snippets from the past at exactly the right times to illustrate, explain, and progress the action happening in the present, genius! So much so that I pretty much read start to finish in only a day. Luckily it was sunny so I lounged outside on my hammock for the duration... OK, so it was, at times, a bit over the top. I refer you to my previous bonkers description, but it was so much fun... All in all, a cracking addition to an already impressive back catalogue. Roll on next time!
