I found this book engaging. At the age of 15 Paul took the decision to leave home to join the army catering corps, this was ballsy! He boarded the train on his own, this all took great courage from someone so young. Paul coped well with the harsh reality of the strict training discipline, he showed grit and determination in everything he did. He clearly got on extremely well with all his army mates, showing all the attributes of a good soldier. Paul was soon promoted to lance corporal, working his way up to sergeant. He travelled around the world, spending time in war-torn countries such as N Ireland, Falklands, Iraq and then on to Australia, Germany and other places too. Paul witnessed and experienced the trauma of war and battled with his own mental anguish. The hours of the catering corp are long, they are the first to rise in the morning and the last to go to bed. It was lovely to read that Paul had a loving supportive family in his parents, wife and daughter. Throughout the book Paul showed great resolve, making every effort to make sure the soldiers were well-fed and cared for. The book has a lot to offer the reader.
