“A family each fighting their own devils and secrets”
(Hardback)
A cast of characters all fighting their own devils and fears. The husband, successful policeman though failing as a husband and father ricocheting into an unsuitable relationship. The wife, successful school counsellor struggling to deal with a wayward daughter and failed marriage. The teenage daughter fighting inadequacies of separated parents and an outsider at a private boarding school . One night of tragedy dragging the family into a maelstrom of deceptions that result in a tangled web of confusion and danger leading to a conclusion that defies expectations.
“Tense, suspenseful, creepy and atmospheric Thriller”

Oh, my days! Another fantastic thriller with an amazing twist.
I spent the entirety of the book feeling I knew exactly who did it and, towards the end, I thought I was right but oh no, I wasn’t! What a fantastic twist.
Told via multiple POV’s we are constant trying to piece together the events of that fateful night. Wondering if we can trust any of the characters we meet.
This has fabulous descriptions throughout that bring the characters and setting to life including the urban legend of Sally in the Woods.
There’s even a scene that was so heartbreaking, it brought tears to my eyes.
Tense, suspenseful, creepy and atmospheric yet also filled with love tenderness and hope. I loved it.
“Brilliant!”

This is such an easy 5 star for me. I was looking for a twisty, dark, thriller and this is exactly what I got.
More twists than a bit of fusilli pasta!
The characters are so incredibly well thought out, the plot exceptional, and just overall a really really excellent read.
I must pick up more by this author!
My thanks to Netgalley and Rachel Quinn Marketing for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
“4.5 stars - Great read”

One Dark Night by @hannahrichell is an atmospheric, eerie thriller set in a quiet English town, where a Halloween party in the woods ends in tragedy. As the investigation unfolds, we follow detective Ben, his ex-wife Rachel, and their teenage daughter Ellie, each navigating the emotional fallout and unsettling secrets that come to light. I loved the folk tale of Sally in the Woods and the creepy depth it added to the story.’
I was really drawn to the premise, and the novel offers a satisfying web of possible suspects—everyone seems to have something to hide, which keeps the tension high throughout. Richell also captures the challenges of being a teenager under pressure, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and the mistakes that can spiral out of control.
There are some well-executed twists and turns, although I did predict the ending before it was revealed. Even so, the journey was gripping, and I remained invested in the characters and their choices until the final page.
Overall, One Dark Night is a well-written, layered thriller that balances suspense with emotional depth. A great choice for readers who enjoy character-driven mysteries with a dark edge.

“Tense”
(Hardback)
Halloween and a group of students from the nearby private school are gathering for a party in a quarry. The legend of Sally in the Woods takes centre stage, the woman who alledgedly haunts the woods wearing a wedding dress. Come the morning, one student didn't make it home.
Ellie, a student at the school is acting out of character, she's being haunted by something that happened that night, her mother Rachel, the school counsellor, is struggling to get Ellie to talk to her, and her Dad, Detective Ben Chase always has no joy. But he is tasked with finding the killer so has little time for teenage angst.
I really enjoyed this novel, its very tense with plenty of twists and red herrings. The writing is very descriptive. It was interesting to read the author's acknowledgement and realise the legend of Sally is real.
