'Old Mortality' is a good novel and has some amazing battle scenes which are excellently portrayed by Scott. In my opinion however, 'The Antiquary' is a better novel. Even though 'The Antiquary' has less action than this novel, for me it is a more gripping novel and the characters are more developed. However Walter Scott is a brilliant novelist so this novel won't disappoint you. In reading this novel, I certainly learnt more about Scottish history and the oppression that Scots experienced from the English due to religious differences.
