This excellent book which is a funny and honest memoir of the bass player from one of the most successful heavy metal bands in history was co-written by Scottish author Mark Eglinton. Waterstones: you need to promote this LOCAL AUTHOR! Even if you aren't a fan of Pantera or heavy metal, this is a very interesting read simply for the insight into such a unique life.

Pantera are one of the biggest metal bands in history and Rex Brown's book is the definitive account of the good, the bad and the ugly of their reign. If yo want a glossy, self-serving memoir that doesn't address key truths, this isn't it. Official Truth is up there with great rock memoirs like 'The Dirt' and 'Scar Tissue' courtesy of painfully honest ownership of faults - issues that caused the band's downfall prior to the shooting of Darrell Abbott. Nobody escapes Brown's critical eye ( least of all himself) but the result is a book that you know lives up to its title. Not just that, it's hilariously funny in places as it describes Pantera's ascendancy from bar-bumping Texan upstarts to all-conquering arena crushers. Just buy it...

I was amazed by some of Brown's take on what on in Pantera. Never did I suspect it was so complex and the events go a long way to explain why - even now - intra band relations are so tense. Written with real honest reflection - Official Truth will take it's place among the really great music memoirs. Even if you don't love the band ( which you should) you'll love the music biz insight.
