“Funny, refreshing and honest with brilliantly drawn characters”

I loved this book. It made me laugh and made me cry, I loved the pace, the scene setting and the different devices used to tell Gosia’s story. The characters were so vivid I felt like I’d met them all. The complex family dynamic with her parents especially was so refreshing. Seeing Gosia navigate her relationships with her parents as an adult was such a relief to read, and the way she refused to subscribe to the forgive-all narrative acknowledged how difficult and painful those relationships can be sometimes. I loved watching Gosia figuring herself out in her own way, and in a way that’s not always what people call ‘healthy’, resolved or tied up in a bow at the end, but very real, human, true to herself and genuine. And Steve, ahhh Steve ❤️
“A wholesome, beautiful novel.”

I read Odd Hours on holiday and gobbled it up in a day.
Part comedy, part mystery, part drama, fully wholesome.
Gosia is a realistic, loveable character who, with her quirky ways, tries to navigate through life with bad jobs, bad friends, bad family and bad neighbours.
I’d recommend Odd Hours to anyone. It’s rare that I read a book and think there were too many relatable passages for me to count, but this book delivered. You’ll be invested from the get-go, I promise.
“Funny, Witty and Truly Enjoyable Read!”

Odd Hours is a debut novel by Polish-British author. It's a story of lonely Gosia, a check out girl in a local supermarket. Craving for love and being lonely, she started making a mistake after mistake and with a speed of light losing most of her friends. Then she felt even more lonely and isolated. Isn't a story of all of us? How many times has happen to us as well?
I just finished the last page and felt that I would miss Gosia and her troubles for the very long time.
In my opinion, Gosia's story is perfect for the Netflix to grab.
“Really original first novel”
(Hardback)
My golly, to be able to write such a funny, sad, original novel exploring so many aspects of modern life - self help, grindingly boring work, loss, rejection, money problems and, ultimately, love, what an achievement.
I really liked that the protagonist is not very likeable. Vengeful, bitter, unkind and difficult, alienating friends and family alike. She's also a terrible poet! But she's real, and therefore ultimately redeenable.
Her life slowly turns around when she meets funny, kind Steve and learns the supposed love of her life is, well, not for her.
I found Ania Bas' unique style difficult to get into at first but, boy what a page turner. Do not give up, I can't wait for her next novel. I hope she is writing one.
